Weekly Update

Monday and Tuesday: Nothing too exciting. One of my kids that I work with told me I was getting fat and my response was, "that happens when you're pregnant." He then apologized.

Wednesday: My work had our office Christmas lunch at Azteca. Yummy fajitas. One of the interns asked me what my due date was and when I told her April 20th, her response was "That's horrible." Apparently 4/20 is National Pot Day. Having never smoked pot, I did not know. I think my due date is Emmett Noel's birthday, so that out trumps pot day by far.

Thursday: I found out that when we are in Jackson over Christmas, our friends are throwing me a baby shower. I never thought of that because it's so early, but I'm not going to complain. :) Forrest will get to hang out with the husbands for a "boys night."

Friday: Today has been a strange one. Today would have been the due date for the baby we lost in April. 8 months ago I thought that today would have been really sad, but how can I be sad when I am 21 weeks pregnant and this little one has been kicking away. (That may be because yesterday I told him he was in trouble for not kicking enough and he's getting back at me.) It is crazy to think that I could have been giving birth today, but then I wouldn't be pregnant with our son and I wouldn't give that up for the world.

I also went to Target today to register. I think there may be 10 items on our registry because I got there and was overwhelmed. I registered for things that seemed like a no brainer - baby tub, diaper genie plus refills. Then I started looking at baby swings, bouncers (which type is better, do I really need them to match), breast pumps (manual, electric, single, double, brand), car seats, and pack and plays. Do I need a bassinet for our room or should I just use the pack and play? I am begging all of you moms who read this blog to give me some advice.

Tonight Forrest and I are going to see the Nutcracker ballet. I am very excited - I have never been to a ballet, and I never thought Forrest would take me to one. It should be a lot of fun. If they let me take pictures I will post them.

Yes, that is Emmett's birthday! We get all the 4/20 jokes too...haha right? It was actually my original due date, too. It's really fun to register, but can be overwhelming. Let me know if you need any help!

Good luck with the baby register. If you register at baby's R us I bet they can help you. I would hope they know something, since it is all they deal with!

Glad to hear you are doing well. Have a great Christmas.

If you can borrow things until you decide, then do it! I borrowed a portable bassinet with Judah to put in our room but never used it, but used it for 2.5 months with Abel.

I'm a *big* fan of online registration: the store is WAY too overwhelming. You can read reviews, find lists, and then publish the link on your blog so all your faithful blog readers can pick out what to get you or send advice (if you still want it).

Also, gift certificates are *really* helpful: lots of times you really don't know what to get until after you've had the little one for a bit.

Oh, and regarding the kicking (or lack thereof): I had a friend who had three very active pregnancies, but her fourth one, she barely felt the baby move. Turns out her placenta was in a different place that with the boys, so the baby was kicking into some serious cushioning.

I'm so excited for y'all!

Hi Amy -

Mark's sister recommended the 'Baby Bargain' book, I tokd Sarah about it last Christmas and I know she ended up really liking it, too. I can't figure out how to link to it in a comment but it is easy to find on Amazon. It gives reviews of brands, stores, etc. and recommends what not to buy. =).

And I forgot to mention April 19 is Ella's brithday. I'm sure Sarah would love to share that day. And Brittney would, too, but she was already happy to share it with Ella =).

Enjoy the ballet. I am sorry that I missed it this year. I think you will use the pack and play more than the bassinet, but it has been so long for me I am not sure my advice is all that helpful.

Oh, the registry. I'll compile a list of my favs - or what I call MUST HAVES - and drop you an email... I can also put together a list of everything I have that you are more than welcome to borrow. A lot is actually on loan from Marisa, but I'm sure you'd be welcome to it until they decide to have another one.

"The girlfriend's guide to baby gear" is great for the big item purchases. Figure out if the stroller can fit in your car before you buy it- Babies R Us should let you test it- they at least have them all available to push around the store. And ditto on the online registry- but if most people are going to a store to buy gifts make sure that there are things available in the store (all my bedding was only available online and it was hard for people to buy...).

I'll pray that he keeps kicking you, both me and a friend of mine who lost a baby prayed for very active second babies- it helps a lot (even when you pass the week that you lost last time).
